Swimming with the Gentle Giants: Experience AJ’s Place Whale Shark Watching Tours

AJs Place- Swim with the gentle giants

Whale shark tourism in the Philippines has started to boom. According to National Geographic, it has become the world’s largest shark tourism industry since its introduction in 2011.

Whale sharks are giant animals which are also known as “butanding” in our native tongue. Despite its size, it appears harmless to humans. They are not predatory, unlike other sharks.

The most known site of this activity is situated in the remote part of Cebu, at Brgy. Tan-awan, in the town of Oslob. Most of the whale sharks appearing in the area are juvenile males, while some are only temporary visitors. The activity usually starts at 6:00AM in the morning, with a brief orientation regarding whale shark watching do’s and don’ts. Guests are guided by TOWSFA (Tan-awan Oslob Whale Shark and Fishermen’s Association) to the interaction area. TOWSFA’s job is to make sure that guests are safe and no harm comes to the gentle giants.

Numerous beach hotels and tour organizations provide whale shark watching packages. To name one, AJ’s Place Beach Resort offers various whale shark watching tours with island hopping inclusions. You may choose your preferred tour packages from their list. And if you are adventurous, they also offer customized tours if you want one!
